Projects that we are currently doing

We are doing many projects in order to save the planet and win the race ;)
1. Build public Pages and get 300 followers - I made a facebook group called "Great power race - IIT Madras" and within a week, 300 followers were there. Currently it has more than 400 followers. We got 15 points for that.
2.Design Material - A friend of mine, Anoop Varghese made a poster for the Great Power Race which was innovative and nice. This fetched us another 10 points.
3. Start a Student Committee - A notice was put up at the hostel entrance and around 10 people joined this committee. I was very happy that they showed so much of enthusiasm. This fetched us 5 points.
4. Organise a Discussion - As I am a NSS Coordinator, we had discussed about this in one of our NSS Meetings. Another 5 points.
5. Put up water saving posters - Outside CR mess, some posters about water saving were put up. This fetched us 5 points more.
6. Film Showing - NSS had shown the movie "HOME" in ICSR. Since this created awareness, we got 5 more points.
7.  Establishing links with NGOs - I had got a gmail id of Kanchana, the President of an NGO(forgot the name). We discussed about the various activities NSS can do in the institute for this year. SO 5 points for that.
8. Pamphlets with tips - NSS vols had made some pamphlets as their NSS work for september, which was uploaded. 5 more points for that....

Now more projects are coming up....So stay tuned as I describe our way to victory...

How and Why did I join the Race??

It was just before SHAASTRA 2010 - Our Institute's annual technical festival in early October. I was just seeing how the fest was publicised in various websites and I saw this competition - 'The Great Power Race". When I saw the Rules and Regulations. It just said "Which country will get the most number of teams - US,China or India?". And as I was a patriot myself, I had registered my Institute as one of the 900 odd campuses that was going to take part in the race in the future.

What is GPR??

The Great Power Race is a clean energy competition between students in China, India and the United States.

Goal: The object of the race is to earn the most points by completing campus greening projects from the beginning to the end of the contest period (September 1, 2010 - November 12, 2010).

We, a team from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras is participating in it.
Team Captain - Akand S.
Team Members - Rachana Wesley(As of now).
